Support Services
What do we do?
At Families First IW we provide a range of support systems for the family.
Support: 1 - 1 Support
Supporting adults individually has been a focus of what we can provide at Families First IW.
Over the years we have supported adults through difficult times, providing practical assistance, direction and guidance on every day matters.
Being able to give a listening and non-judgemental ear has been beneficial to the individual as it relives the stress an burden we put upon ourselves through life.
We have and can support individuals through many stresses and strains.
A listening ear
Finding out things for people
Advocacy / accompanying people to a variety of meetings / appointments
Support for adults with a special need, paperwork, etc
At Families First IW, we will do what we can to help regarding any situation or enquiry. We remain completely confidential (unless a child is at risk) and work with you to focus on the positive so that the task or worry is manageable.
Comments from those who have received support from Families First IW:
"Working through things with the Family Room has helped me to manage my own and keep focused and stay calm".
"Before this, I would get very frustrated and flustered".
"I am dyslexic so it helps to have someone who can help me write things down and make sense of them".
Parenting Groups at Families First IW
The Family Room offer parents and carers the opportunity of taking part in a Parenting Group workshop. The main Parenting Programme the Family Room offers is the "Parenting Puzzle" which has been developed and produced by a national organisation known as Family Links.
Parenting Group Workshops
Our workshops run for a period of 10 weeks and are 2 hours a week. The course covers many strategies to help cope with everyday parenting and children's behaviour: time out: choices and consequences: raising your child's self esteem and lots more. The workshops are currently being delivered in both Carisbrooke Primary and Nine Acres Primary Schools.
The courses have two people leading them and this is usually John and Karen who are both parents themselves as well as being trained to deliver parenting groups.
From time to time, the Family Room also deliver 'one off' sessions on one particular aspect of parenting.
